They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

1. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map.
